Paths

Chilly mornings abound as we approach winter solstice. An event we savour. It won’t be long before Spring demands our attention on the farm.

For now, we must still physical distance.

COVID isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. We fill our days priortizing projects on the farm. The occasional walk. The occasional fire pit. Scotch.

That’s our path.

When COVID hit last March, before the start of the season, we anticipated revenue losses just like everyone else.

After eight consecutive years of vending at the Penticton Farmers Market there was speculation the market may not happen. It appeared that revenue stream was in jeopardy.

Surely the Tiny Studio Guest Homes would be a bust. No one was travelling.

Another revenue stream in jeopardy.

That’s our path.

It wasn’t until later in the season that the Farmers Markets opened, albeit with strict COVID protocols in place. But by then we had committed to a different path.

Back then we had little idea how to respond to the unstable market conditions yet we knew we had to take back some control.

So we reached out to our customers and developed a home delivery service for our bread, garlic, and Original Garlic Scape Salt.

That’s our path.

Then some time in June, when the province relaxed COVID restrictions and permitted regional travel, interest in the self contained Tiny Studio Guest Homes began to turn around.

Local destinations became desirable. The local, less traveled path, became a thing. A hashtag.

Opportunities sometime lay on paths not easily taken.

That’s our path.

Cheers!
